Honoring an Army Hero

Dr. David Marcozzi is an army reservist. In his civilian job, he serves as an emergency physician in the University of Maryland School of Medicine. A colonel, Dr. Marcozzi has been mobilized four times since 2001 and is now assigned to the U.S. Army Special Operations Command. On his last deployment, he served as the Central Command Joint Trauma System's Prehospital Care Director. During his military career, Colonel Marcozzi has completed the following: Officer Basic Course, Captains Career Course, Flight Surgeon Course, Basic Airborne Course and Command and General Staff College Intermediate Level Education. Finally, Dr. Marcozzi received the ‘A’ proficiency designator, which recognizes the highest level of professional achievement in the US Army Medical Department.

Colonel Marcozzi likes to be called 'Doc Marco' and, outside of his family, describes his time in uniform as some of his most memorable. He stated, "I have been unbelievably lucky in my military career. Working with service members, medics, nurses and other doctors to save lives when time matters is a special mission and one I have been honored to contribute to." He added, "It truly is all about supporting the troops as they are some of the nation's most valuable assets. Our job is to see that they get home safely." On being a reservist, Dr. Marcozzi feels that it provides a great opportunity to build a civilian career while also allowing an individual a unique perspective and opportunity to support our nation.

On his family, Doc Marco said, "Simply, I couldn't do any of this without their support. The families of service members are the real heroes and they need more credit." He continued, "Let me be honest, it is tough every time I leave them."
